1. BEML rolls out 50th metro train set of Bangalore Metro Rail
i. BEML, a public sector enterprise under the Ministry of Defence, has rolled out the 50th Metro Train Set of Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL).
ii. With this roll-out, BEML has fulfilled the supply of BMRCL 2 RS-DM contract.
iii. BEML, which forayed into the manufacture and supply of hi-tech metro cars in 2002, has since been supplying metro coaches. The company so far supplied more than 700 metro cars to Delhi Metro, Bangalore Metro and Jaipur Metro.
iv. At a function held at the company’s Bangalore Complex, Pradeep Singh Kharola, Managing Director of BMRCL, rolled out the 50th Metro Train Set.
v. N M Dhoke, Director (Rolling Stock), and P Dwarakanath, CMD of BEML, were present along with executives and employees of the company.
2. 12th Agri Science Congress to be held in Karnal in Feb
i. The 12th Agricultural Science Congress to be organised by the National Academy of Agricultural Sciences (NAAS) will be held in Karnal, Haryana, on February 3-6 next year.
ii. The theme of the Congress is Sustainable Livelihood Security for Small Holder Farmers’, said S. Ayyappan, President, NAAS, at its foundation day celebration, here on Thursday.
3. Telecom Tribunal clears 3G intra-circle roaming pacts
i. The Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT) today ruled in favour of private telecom operators by saying that 3G intra-circle-roaming (ICR) does not violate condition of licence agreement.
ii. A TDSAT bench headed by Justice Aftab Alam quashed all penalties imposed by Dept of Telecom on Bharti Airtel, Idea and Vodafone for providing the 3G facilities through ICR agreements under which they had agreed to acquire customers in area where they did not win spectrum.
Note: DoT had issued notice to telecom operators asking them to stop 3G ICR service and imposed penalty,cumulatively amounting to about 1,200 crore Rupees.
4. President Obama nominated PIO Sunil Sabharwal as US Alternate Executive Director of IMF
i. President Barack Obama on 4 April 2014 nominated Sunil Sabharwal as the next US Alternate Executive Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF). He is currently working as independent investor in the payments sector.
About Sunil Sabharwal
i. His earliest known job was at European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, where he worked from 1992-1996, eventually becoming its Principal Banker before leaving.
ii. In 1997, Sabharwal joined GE Capital, leaving in 2003 while he was the company’s Managing Director.
iii. From 2003-2006, he was Senior Vice-President of Strategic Investments at First Data Corporation, Western Union.
