1.    Guj FSL to tie-up with US-based firm for ballistic testing

i. Gujarat Forensic Science Laboratory, which provides services to various companies for testing of armour panels and bullet-proof jackets, is likely to soon tie-up with a US-based firm to share best practices in the field of ballistic testing.
ii. The Gandhinagar-based FSL has it own ballistic testing centre where it tests products for Indian Army and now it is also providing this service to private defence companies and is also in touch with other companies to test their products.
iii. "We, here in Gujarat FSL, have conducted tests for US-headquartered company DuPont for their products like Kevlar and Tensylon which are being used as ballistic-proof jackets and ballistic-panels used in armoured vehicles," FSL's deputy director H P Sanghvi said.
iv. Upbeat by the experience with the FSL, DuPont is eyeing better ties with the local lab in the form of an 'agreement'.
v. Elaborating further, the official said, "DuPont made Kevlar brand fibre is extensively used by military and police organisations across the world for making bullet resistant jackets and helmets."
vi. "DuPont has recently introduced Ultra High Modulus Polyethylene brand TensylonT for hard armour panels," he added.

2.    Sudhakar Jayant wins gold at World Masters Weightlifting Championships

i. Indian Army's Lt Colonel Sudhakar Jayant completed a hat trick of titles after clinching the gold medal for the third time at the IWF World Masters Weightlifting Championships in Copenhagen, Denmark.
ii. Competing in 62kg weight category, the 45-year-old Indian lifted a total of 185kg. In snatch, Jayant lifted 85kg while in clean and jerk he came up with a best effort of 100kg.
iii. The World Masters Weightlifting Championships which started at Copenhagen on August 30th and will conclude tomorrow

3.    Union Health Minister Launched First National Anti-TB Drug Resistance Survey of India

i. Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan on 6 September 2014 launched the first anti-Tuberculosis Drug Resistance Survey of India for the year 2014-15.
ii. This is the first of its kind of survey in India and is supported by the World Health Organization (WHO).
iii. Describing the TB as national emergency, Health Minister Harsh Vardhan called for an email repository of doctors for better disease management.


4.    Vinod Mehta selected for G K Reddy Memorial Award 2014

i. Vinod Mehta, eminent journalist and Editorial Chairman of Outlook group, was selected for G K Reddy Memorial Award 2014. The award was announced by the TSR Foundation on 2 September 2014 and the award will be presented in New Delhi in December 2014.
ii. He was selected for this award for his outstanding contribution in the field of Journalism. He is one the popular editors in India, who launched successful publications including The Sunday Observer, The Independent and The Pioneer.  He also authored the biographies of actress Meena Kumari and politician Sanjay Gandhi.
