1.    Mizoram Governor Vakkom Purushothaman resigns

i. Resenting his transfer from Mizoram "without consulting him", Nagaland Governor Vakkom B Purushothaman on Friday resigned from the post.
ii. The 86-year-old Congress veteran said that he sent his resignation to President Pranab Mukherjee this morning.
iii. Though he did not raise any political or procedural issue in his resignation letter, Purushothaman told reporters that governors had been treated in a manner which was "not fair" after the NDA Government assumed power. "Governors are constitutional authorities. It is grossly improper to transfer them just like any other government official.That is not fair," he said.


2.    Doordarshan's Naad Bhed-The Mystery of Sound to be featured in Limca Book of Records

i. The classical music reality show of Doordarshan Naad Bhed-The Mystery of Sound will be featured in Limca Book of Records. This was revealed through a statement issued by Doordarshan on 21 July 2014.
ii. The reality show will be featured under Television Chapter in Limca Book of Records for being the first ever National level reality show on Classical Music.

About Naad Bhed - the Mystery of Sound
i. Naad Bhed – the Mystery of Sound, a national-level classical music reality show, aims at promoting and popularising Indian classical music and rewarding the best young practitioners of classical music.
ii. The central idea of the show was to earn respect for the rich Indian heritage of classical music.
iii. Naad Bhed was produced by the Doordarshan and an NGO,the Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music And Culture Amongst Youth (SPIC MACAY).

3.    L'Oreal appoints Jean-Christophe Letellier as India MD

i. French cosmetics giant L'Oreal said on Wednesday that it has appointed Jean-Christophe Letellier as its Managing Director in India.
ii. Letellier succeeds Pierre-Yves Arzel, who has been promoted as Managing Director of South Asia Pacific region, L'Oreal said in a statement issued.
iii. "I am very excited to take up this role which I hope will take L'Oreal India to its next phase of growth. India has immense potential and I hope to play a key role in achieving L'Oreal's objective of reaching one billion new consumers," Letellier, who was earlier the general manager for consumer products division for India and South East Asia, said.


4.    India & Bangladesh sign MOU to enhance cooperation in textiles sector

i. India and Bangladesh today signed a Memorandum of Understanding to further enhance cooperation in the textiles sector.
ii. The pact was signed at the end of delegation level talks between Textiles Minister K.S.Rao and his visiting Bangladesh counterpart Abdul Latif Siddique.
iii. Under the MoU signed, India has offered cotton security for Bangladesh Mills.
iv. Both countries also agreed to set up a successor organisation for the International Jute Study Group in Dhaka through joint efforts at the UNCTAD.
v. India have also assured Bangladesh that its Textiles mills will not have any difficulties in sourcing cotton from India.
vi. India and Bangladesh account for 50 billion dollars of textiles and apparel exports to the world. The two countries also account for 90 per cent global production of jute and allied fibres.
