1. Hockey India inducts Madhya Pradesh as new Associate Member
i. Hockey India on Thursday added its 23rd associate member by welcoming on board Hockey Madhya Pradesh under its wings.
ii. Prior to being the associate member of Hockey India, Hockey Madhya Pradesh was known as Madhya Pradesh Hockey Association, HI said in a statement.
iii. Speaking on the newly formed Hockey Madhya Pradesh, HI Secretary General Narinder Batra said, "I welcome Hockey Madhya Pradesh to the family of Hockey India and we look forward to them to continuing their commendable work that they have been doing since their inception as Madhya Pradesh Hockey Association.
Note:i. Hockey India currently has 25 permanent, 23 associate, 2 members through State Olympic Associations, 6 Academy members and 1 Hoc-Key Member.
ii. Nitin Dhimole is the President and Lok Bahadur is the General Secretary of the Hockey Madhya Pradesh.
2. British visas now only through e-payment
i. Indians seeking British visa will have to pay the visa fees online through debit or credit cards or via e-wallet.
ii. The other modes of payments including cash or demand draft will be discontinued from 16th of this month.
iii. Britain's Immigration Regional Director for Central and South Asia Thomas Greig said the new initiative has been taken as part of efforts to streamline the visa application process and make it consistent with the wider global trend.
iv. He said the new initiative will help cut costs in the management of visa operations which in turn will help to keep visa fees down
3. India became third largest crude oil importer in the World
i. India overtook Japan to become the third largest crude oil importer in the World. As per the data released by Reuters on 30 January 2014, India imported 3.86 million barrels-per-day of crude oil in the year 2013.
ii. India's crude oil imports were nearly 6 percent higher than Japan's customs-cleared imports of 3648372 barrels-per-day (211716710 kilolitres).
World’s Top Five Oil-Importing Countries
1.China: China imports 6.30 million barrels per day
2.U.S.A: USA imports 6.24 million barrels per day
3. India: India imports 3.86 million barrels per day
4. Japan: Japan imports 3.64 million barrels per day
5.Germany: Germany imports 2.67 million barrels per day
4. National Teeka Express Launched
i. The National Teeka Express was launched by Shri Ghulam Nabi Azad, Union Minister of Health & Family Welfare at Alwar, Rajasthan today.
ii. It has been launched to protect children from life-threatening childhood diseases.
iii. It may be mentioned that under Routine Immunization Programme, ANMs collect vaccines from storage point (cold chain point) and transport them to session sites, i.e. either Sub-centre or Anganwari centre for carrying out vaccination.
iv. Govt. of India is providing support for distribution of vaccine from last storage point to outreach immunization session sites at Sub-centres/Anganwaris, known as Alternate Vaccine Delivery (AVD) under NRHM.
v. Designated vehicles under the brand name of ‘National Teeka Express’ will help not only in distribution of the vaccines and complementary logistics from lastcold chain point to immunization session sites but will also ensure holding of sessions at the mobile vaccination centre now.
vi. Teeka Express will also collect the coverage and immunization performancereports of the session for compilation and preparation of report at PHC.
vii. In the first phase the 120 vehicles of ‘Teeka Express’’ are planned in 6 districts of 5 states namely Rajasthan – Alwar (64 vehicles); Uttar Pradesh – Sharaswati (11 vehicles); Haryana – Mewat (9); Jammu and Kashmir – Doda (8) and Poonch (10) and Madhya Pradesh – Tikamgarh (18).
