1. India successfully test-fires nuclear-capable Agni-I missile
i. India today successfully test-fired indigenously developed nuclear-capable surface-to-surface Agni-I missile from Wheeler Island off Odisha coast.
ii. The single-stage, solid-fueled missile was launched at 11.11 this morning from launch pad complex number - 4 as part of a user trial by the Strategic Force Command of the Indian Army.
iii. The ballistic missile has a striking range of 700 to 1250 km. It can carry a one-tonne nuclear warhead.
iv. Agni-I was developed by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) missile technologists.
2. HM launches India's first 'National Anti-Tuberculosis Drug Resistance Survey'
i. Health Minister Harsh Vardhan today launched India's first National Anti-Tuberculosis Drug Resistance Survey in New Delhi.
ii. The survey will be conducted on 5,214 patients across the country. It will provide information on the prevalence of anti-tuberculosis drug resistance among new and patients already undergoing treatment
iii. The survey will include tracking the effectiveness of tuberculosis prevention and control activities,assess epidemiological trends and identify and respond to outbreaks of drug-resistant TB.
iv. The number of multi-drug resistant TB cases in the country had increased by five times between 2011 and 2013.
3. IOC and Interpol meet to combat match fixing & illegal betting
i. International Olympic Committee (IOC) and Interpol (International Police agency) have increased their collaboration to combat match-fixing and illegal betting.
ii. To enhance the cooperation between the two bodies, the IOC President Thomas Bach met with secretary general of the international police agency Ronald Noble and discussed the issue.
iii. The meet was based on the basis of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that was signed between Interpol and IOC.
iv. Apart from this in the recent past, IOC to monitor any suspicious betting patterns during the Olympic or other sports events, set up an Integrity Betting Intelligence System.
4. Israel to take over West Bank land
i. Israel on 31 August 2014 announced to take over West Bank land. The area will be named as Gevaot.
ii. The land portion is located south of Bethlehem. The seizure of the land is said to be the largest seizure by Israel in last 30 years.
iii. Israel will expropriate 4 sq km (1.5 sq miles) of Palestinian land in the occupied West Bank. Israel Government planned to build on the land, while Palestinian officials claimed that the land include many olive groves.
iv. The move was a response to the kidnapping and killing of three Jewish teenagers in the area in June 2014.
