1. Sagarika Ghosh won the Cadet Girls Singles Title 2013
i. Sagarika Ghosh on 11 August 2013 won the Cadet Girls singles title while Birdie Boro had to be satisfied with a silver in the Cadet Boys singles at the Guatemala Junior and Cadet Open Table Tennis championships.
ii. Birdie Boro lost 9-11, 8-11, 5-11 to Cuban Livan Martinez in the final of the boys singles event. Earlier, Boro had beaten teammate Anirban Ghosh 3-0 to enter the final
iii. Sagarika, the winner of South Asian Junior title recently, defeated Sreeja 11-6, 11-5, 11-8 in the final to take gold. She had won the South Asian Junior title recently.
2. IICT scientist wins award
i. Lingaiah Nagarapu, Principal Scientist at the CSIR-Indian Institute of Chemical Technology has been honoured with the best scientist award of Science-Tech Foundation (STF), Bangalore, for 2013.
ii. Nagarapu has been selected for the award for his efforts in basic and applied research which resulted in the development of 15 technologies, 2 patents and 80 international publications.
3. Dhoni is 4th fastest batsman to score 8000 runs in ODIs
i. Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni today became the fourth fastest batsman to complete 8,000 runs in one-day cricket during the fifth and final ODI against New Zealand in Wellington.
ii. The 32-year-old reached the milestone in the 26th over of the match. It is a commendable achievement by the wicketkeeper-batsman who comes in lower down the order.
iii. The three men ahead of him in the list are illustrious compatriots Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly and the West Indian legend Brian Lara, all of whom batted in the top three. Dhoni has taken 214 innings to touch t he landmark.
4. Mumbai Indians take on Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 7 opener
i. Fighting for credibility after being left devastated by a spot-fixing scandal, the glamorous but controversial Indian Premier League will roll out its seventh edition from Wednesday with the promise of putting cricket first while keeping the drama and glitz to a bare minimum.
ii. Defending champions Mumbai Indians, captained by Rohit Sharma, will square off against 2012 winners Kolkata Knight Riders, led by veteran opener Gautam Gambhir, in the event-opener at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Dubai.
iii. The UAE is hosting the high-profile T20 event's first leg from April 16 to 30 owing to a clash of dates with the Indian general elections and security concerns emanating from that.
