1. Sachin Tendulkar postage stamp released on honour of the Little Master before 200th Test
i. A postage stamp honouring Sachin Tendulkar was released before the start of the maestro's 200th Test match at the Wankhede Stadium.
ii. Milind Deora, Sharad Pawar and Rajeev Shukla released the stamp honouring Tendulkar ahead of the start of second Test between India and West Indies.
iii. Even for the toss, the captains used a special commemorative coin featuring the image of the legendary batsman.
iv. Deora tweeted that Tendulkar is the second living person after Mother Teressa to get a postage stamp in his honour.
v. Tendulkar announced his retirement on October 10, 2013. And ever since then it has been a frenzy with media attention and felicitations.
2. Sushma Singh to take over as new chief information commissioner
i. Sushma Singh, the seniormost Information Commissioner, will be the next Chief Information Commissioner of India and will succeed Deepak Sandhu, who completes her term.
ii. The decision on appointing Singh, a former IAS officer, as the next CIC was taken unanimously by a panel comprising Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, leader of the opposition in Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj and law minister Kapil Sibal.
iii. Singh will the second woman to become CIC after Sandhu, whose term comes to an end later this month.
iv. Sushma Singh became Information Commissioner on 23 September 2009 in the Central Information Commission. She had retired from IAS on 31 May 2009. She is a former secretary to the government of India and belongs to the Jharkhand cadre. She had joined IAS in 1972.
3. Gopalakrishna takes charge as CAFRAL director
i. Reserve Bank of India (RBI) executive director G. Gopalakrishna has voluntarily retired from the service and joined as director of Centre for Advanced Financial Research and Learning (CAFRAL).
ii. CAFRAL, a not-for-profit organisation, is an independent body fully funded by the RBI.
iii. Mr. Gopalakrishna’s name was in the reckoning for Deputy Governor in place of Anand Sinha who retired in January. He was the senior most among nine executive directors who appeared before the search panel headed by RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan. However, R. Gandhi was selected for the post of Deputy Governor earlier this month.
iv. He was appointed as Executive Director on October 26, 2007, and looked after banking supervision, financial stability and communication before seeking retirement from the RBI. He also had a stint as the Executive Director of the Deposit Insurance & Credit Guarantee Corporation.
4. Prince Charles, wife on 4-day visit to Kerala from tomorrow
i. A visit to the Jewish Synagogue at nearby Mattancherry, the oldest synagogue in the Commonwealth, and a trip to the elephant corridor at Vazhachal will be the highlights of the four-day visit of Prince Charles and his wife Camilla Parker Bowles to Kerala, starting tomorrow.
ii. The royal couple, on their maiden visit to the State, will be reaching Kochi after completing their visits to Dehradun, New Delhi, Mumbai and Pune.
iii. Some 1,000 additional police personnel have been deployed in various places in and around the city to strengthen security in view of the visit.
iv. On November 11, the royal couple will be visiting the private Kerala Folklore Museum and Theatre at Thevara, which showcases the rich heritage that the State exudes through its numerous dance forms.
