1.  Mayer stuns Ferrer to win maiden ATP title

i. Argentina’s world No. 46 Leonardo Mayer captured his first ATP title on Sunday when he fought back to defeat top-seeded Spaniard David Ferrer, 6-7(3), 6-1, 7-6(4) in the bet-at-home Open final.
ii. Mayer becomes the lowest-ranked winner of an ATP World Tour 500 tournament since number 54 Radek Stepanek clinched the Washington title in 2011.
iii. The 27-year-old Mayer is enjoying one of the best spells of his career. Last month, the right-hander advanced to the fourth round at Wimbledon and made his first ATP World Tour final in Vina del Mar earlier this year.


2.  India thrash Zimbabwe by 9 wickets

i. India continued their dominance over Zimbabwe as they thrashed the hosts by 9 wickets in the fourth ODI of the five-match series at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo on Thursday.
ii. Chasing a meagre target of 145, openers Rohit Sharma (64*) and Suresh Raina (65*) both slammed half-century each to secure another massive win for India.
iii. Earlier, India continued their dominance in the series as they dismissed Zimbabwe for a paltry total.
iv. With the series already in their pocket after having won the first three games quite comfortably, India made two changes in their playing eleven today, handing out debuts to Cheteshwar Pujara and Mohit in place of Shikhar Dhawan and R Vinay Kumar.


3.  Aditya Mehta clinched the Snooker Gold Medal

i. India's number one snooker player, Aditya Mehta on 31 July 2013 clinched the gold medal in the World Games, beating China's Liang Wenbo, 3-0, in the final of the quadrennial event at Cali, Columbia.
ii. Mehta had earlier defeated Thailand`s Dechawat Poomjaeng 3-1 in the semifinal. Poomjaeng defeated another Indian and eight-time world champion Pankaj Advani 3-1 in the quarterfinals.
iii. Poomjaeng won the bronze medal after securing a 3-2 win over Brazil`s Igor Figueiredo in his third-place play-off match.


4.  Private sector power promoters IPPAN to host Power Summit 2013 in Nepal

i. In Nepal, the private sector power promoters, Independent Power Producers Association (IPPAN) is to host the Power Summit 2013 on the 26th and 27th of this month.
ii. Addressing a press conference in Kathmandu, President of IPPAN, Subarna Das Shrestha said, the two day Summit will critically review the performance of the domestic sector since 2006 and what needs to be done to speed up development of the hydropower sector in the country.
iii. He added that only 180 MW have been added in the past seven years while there are seventy projects in different stages of construction.
iv. While the Vice President of IPPAN, Khadga Bahadur Bista said, the conference would focus on why the hydro sector has not been able to take off and the hurdles and the obstructions that need to be removed.
v. While Nepal is said to have potential to produce 83,000 megawatts of power, less than 800 MW have been tapped, leading to long power outages and affecting running of industries and leading to high production costs.
vi. The stake-holders from Brazil, China, Norway, USA, Czech Republic, France, India and Norway, among other countries are expected to take part in the Summit.
