1.    Siddaramaiah launches Ksheera Bhagya scheme

i. Over 65 lakh school children in 51,000 Government schools and 39 lakh children in anganwadi centres across the State will now receive 150 ml of milk three times a week under the Ksheera Bhagya scheme, which was launched by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah at Hoskote near here on Thursday.
ii. After launching the scheme by giving a glass of milk each to a group of students, he said the programme would help tackle malnutrition among children and at the same time benefit milk farmers in the State.
iii. Meanwhile, T.B. Jayachandra, Minister for Animal Husbandry and Fisheries, said that milk powder would be supplied to schools until the Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) works out logistics to provide safe and fresh milk.


2.  Junior world championships: Grappler Satywart wins bronze

i. India's Satywart Kadian has won a bronze medal in the 96-kg freestyle category at the World Junior Wrestling Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria.
ii. Satyawart produced a clinical display of freestyle combat to get the better of Turkey's Ali Bonceoglu to open India'saccount at the championships on Saturday.
iii. Earlier, Satyawart's march was halted by Armenia' ViktorKazishvili in the semifinals, as he ran out of steam and lost the bout in the first period itself.
iv. The burly Indian had won against three opponents, including a Kazakh and an Iranian grappler, before making it to the last-four stages.

3.  Bolt equals world record for Gold medals

i. Jamaican sprint legend Usain Bolt equalled the world record for Gold medals after he anchored his country's 4x100m relay team to victory at the World Athletics Championships.
ii. It is Usain Bolt's eighth world gold medal.
iii. He has joined American women's 200 metre specialist Allyson Felix, and retired US track stars Carl Lewis and Michael Johnson who have all won eight gold medals at world championships.
iv. The Jamaican relay team, that included Bolt among others, clocked 37.36 seconds in the 4x100 metre race at a packed Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow yesterday. The United States claimed Silver, while Bronze medal for the event went to Canada.


4.  Bihar train tragedy: 37 killed on tracks

i. At least 35 pilgrims were killed and over a dozen injured on Monday when they were run over by a speeding train in Bihar's Khagaria district.
ii. Angry locals and pilgrims set ablaze six coaches of the train, brutally assaulted its driver and took several railway officials hostage.
iii. Additional director general of police SK Bhardwaj confirmed the death of 35 Hindu pilgrims (Kanwariyas) when the Rajya Rani Express train mowed them down while they were trying to cross rail tracks at the Dhamara railway station on Saharsa-Mansi route of the East Central Railway (ECR).
iv. The death toll may increase because detailed information is yet to come from the accident site, he said.
v. The train was travelling from Saharsa to Patna when the accident took place between 8am and 8.30am. The express train does not have a scheduled stop at Dhamara station.
vi. "The accident took place when pilgrims were trying to cross the railway track after alighting from a local train," he said.
vii. Soon after the incident, angry pilgrims and locals set ablaze six coaches, including one AC coach, of the train and attacked railway officials.
viii. "Some angry people attacked the train driver and seriously injured him. They beat him up mercilessly. Besides, some railway officials have been held hostage by them," a police official said.
ix. Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar expressed grief at the incident and asked railway officials to launch rescue operations and arrange proper treatment for the injured.
