1.    Oman foreign minister to visit India today

i. Oman Foreign Minister Yousuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah will on Tuesday visit India to congratulate the new Indian government on behalf of his country.
ii. According to a report, India is expected to utilise Abdullah's visit to discuss bilateral trade.
iii. Oman is an important trading partner of India in the Gulf region with bilateral trade exceeding USD 5.70 billion in 2013-14.


2.    PM releases stamp on former Punjab CM Beant Singh 

i. Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh today released a postage stamp of former Chief Minister of Punjab ,Sardar Beant Singh.
ii. After releasing the stamp in New Delhi, Dr Singh said, it is a small token of gratitude to a great leader who is best remembered for providing strong and determined leadership to Punjab in very troubled times.
iii. The Prime Minister said, as Chief Minister of Punjab, Beant Singh brought the state to normalcy after years of terrorist violence. He said, restoring peace in the state during those difficult days, was no easy task and it is a tribute to the extraordinary leadership qualities of Sardar Beant Singh that he succeeded in doing so.


3.    US Congressman Crowley honoured by Indian-Americans
i. Indian-Americans here have honoured US Democratic Congressman Joe Crowley for his work for the community, particularly his efforts in getting the FBI to track hate crimes against Sikhs and Hindus.
ii. Crowley, who serves as the co-chair of the Congressional Caucus on India and Indian-Americans in the US House of Representatives, said it is "high time" that India becomes a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council.
iii. Crowley, the Vice Chair of the Democratic Caucus, was honoured on January 30 by the Jackson Heights and broader Queens Indian American community for his efforts on behalf of Sikh-Americans and the broader Indian American community.
iv. Nearly 100 Sikh and Indian-American community members and leaders from New York attended the event last week.
v. Crowley is the eight-term representative from the 14th Congressional District of New York, which includes sections of Queens and the Bronx, which has a substantial population of Indians.


4.    Sri Lanka's Foreign Minister to visit Delhi for talks with Sushma Swaraj
i. Sri Lanka’s External Affairs Minister Prof G L Peiris will be visiting India next week to hold talks with Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj on key issues, including the welfare of Tamil community in Sri Lanka and the resolution of the fishermen issues.
ii. Prof. Peiris is likely to arrive in New Delhi on 9th July and hold official talks on 10th.
