1. PV Sindhu sails into final of Malaysia GP
i. Top seed P V Sindhu stormed into the final of the women's singles event at the Malaysia Grand Prix Gold badminton tournament with a straight-game win over Sapsiree Taerattanachai of Thailand in Kuala Lumpur Friday.
ii. Sindhu needed just 34 minutes to get the better of her third-seeded opponent, 21-17 21-11 in the semifinal clash.
iii. The 17-year-old Indian shuttler, who was in a full flow against the Thai girl, will face fifth seeded Gu Juan of Singapore in the final.
2. Tejpal charged with rape of woman journalist
i. Tehelka founder editor Tarun Tejpal was on Monday charged by Goa police with rape, sexual harassment and outraging modesty of a woman journalist in a lift of a five-star hotel here in November last year.
ii. If found guilty, Tejpal can be sentenced to more than seven years of imprisonment on these charges.
iii. According to the complaint, the victim was reportedly sexually assaulted by Tejpal on November 7 and the offence was repeated on November 8.
3. Telangana draft Bill approved by Union Cabinet
i. The Union Cabinet on 5 December 2013 approved the 10 districts Telangana draft Bill.
ii. The 29th state of India, Telengana will consist of ten districts, whereas Andhra Pradesh will have 13 districts.
iii. Hyderabad will be the common capital for Andhra Pradesh and Telangana for a period of 10 year.
iv. Both the states will have special status under Article 371-D of the Constitution for equitable opportunities for education and public employment.
4. Cricket: New Zealand win final ODI vs India by 87 runs
i. A listless Indian cricket team slumped to its worst ODI series defeat in New Zealand, going down 0-4, after the Black Caps hammered them by 87 runs in the inconsequential fifth and final one-dayer in Wellington on Friday.
