1.    Serena wins women's Rogers Cup

i. Serena Williams crushed Romania's Sorana Cirstea 6-2 6-0 in the final of the women's Rogers Cup to capture her 54th WTA singles title.
ii. Williams completely overwhelmed her unseeded opponent to cruise to victory in less than an hour and claim the Rogers Cup for the third time.
iii. It was the world number one's eighth title this year

2.    India successfully test-fires Prithvi-II missile

i. India on Tuesday successfully test-fired its indigenously developed nuclear-capable Prithvi-II missile, which has a strike range of 350 kms and is capable of carrying warheads of upto 1000 kgs, from a test range in Odisha.
ii. The launch was part of a user trial by the Army.
iii. Describing the trial of the sophisticated missile as a "complete success", Integrated Test Range Director M V K V Prasad said the launch conducted by the specially formed Strategic Forces Command (SFC) met all the parameters.
iv. The surface-to-surface missile was test fired from a mobile launcher in salvo mode from launch complex-3 of the ITR at Chandipur near here at about 0948 hrs.

3.    China marks arrival of the Year of the Horse

i. In China, celebrations marking the arrival of the "Year of the Horse" have taken place across the country.
ii. The Chinese Lunar New Year is a long-held traditional holiday for the Chinese people.
iii. It is commonly celebrated by Chinese people across the globe. China's Lunar New Year is also the largest annual mass migration on earth, as hundreds of millions of people head back to their home towns to spend the festival with their families.
iv. Chinese President Xi Jinping has delivered his Lunar New Year greetings to all Chinese people living in and around the world. He also issued a call for ethnic harmony among the people living in China.
v. In Hong Kong, crowds gathered at the city's best-known temples last night to make wishes for the new year. Worshippers in Taipei also crowded local temples to pray for prosperity in the new year.

4.    CBI Sports Integrity Unit to probe betting, fixing and other fraud in sports

i. The CBI has set up a Sports Integrity Unit to check betting and fixing in sports.
ii. Speaking at a function in New Delhi yesterday, CBI Director Ranjit Sinha said that the unit is intended to investigate and inquire into matters related to sports fraud, combating malpractice in sports and coordinating with sports federations and law enforcement agencies.
iii. Mr. Sinha said the agency will also be engaging with the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports so that a law to deal with corruption in sports is put in place at the earliest.
