1. China, Russia sign 30-year gas deal
i. A spokesman for Russia’s Gazprom said the company has signed a 30-year contract to supply natural gas to China.
ii. Spokesman Sergey Kupriyanov told The Associated Press the deal was signed on Wednesday but he declined to give any price details.
iii. China and Russia have been negotiating the deal for more than a decade but had been hung up over the gas price.
iv. Chinese and Russian officials had said they expected a deal to be reached in time to be signed during this week’s visit to Shanghai by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
2. Felix appointed India coach
i. Olympian and former India captain Jude Felix was, on Wednesday, appointed coach of the National men’s hockey team.
ii. He will be on probation for three months. Felix, an accomplished centre-half, played more than 250 international matches and represented the country in the Olympics (1988, 1992), World Cups (1990, 1994), Asian Games (1990, 1994) and Champions Trophy (1985, 1987 and 1989).
iii. He worked as a player-cum-coach with the Paris-based Racing Club, which took part in the French League and European League, from 1997 to 2000 and Singapore Recreation Club from 1995 to 1997 and 2001 to 2011.
iv. During his stint in Singapore, he was adjudged Coach-of-the-year in 2005 and 2007.
v. Felix, who will work under chief coach Terry Walsh, is all set to join the ongoing training camp here on Thursday.
3. ICICI Prudential MF launches 'Dividend Yield Equity Fund'
i. ICICI Prudential Mutual Fund is planning to launch a new open-ended 'ICICI Prudential Dividend Yield Equity Fund'.
ii. The new fund offer will open for subscription on April 25 and close on May 9, 2014, a company release said.
iii. Companies with a good track record of paying high dividends yields are seen as better investment options. Investing in such companies is also one of value investing strategies," Nimesh Shah, Managing Director & CEO, ICICI Prudential MF, said.
iv. The fund house also said the scheme will invest mostly in those companies that have dividend yield greater than the dividend yield of CNX Nifty Index at the time of investment.
v. ICICI Prudential MF has an average assets under management of Rs 1.06 lakh crore by the end of last fiscal.
4. New Delhi-Teheran to expand economic cooperation and increase joint investment
i. Iranian Deputy Economy Minister Behrouz Alishiri has said that Teheran is looking forward to expand economic cooperation and increase joint investment with India, especially by private sectors of two countries.
ii. Karbasian, who is also the Deputy Minister of Industries, Mines and Trade, said Tata group could work with Iran on joint investment in steel and mining sectors. He also pointed out that the Indian company could also work on lead, zinc, coal, coke, aluminum and titanium projects.
